The European Union (EU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor through the Zantchito Skills for Jobs Program has held a workshop in Lilongwe for Occupational Health and Safety inspectors in Lilongwe.
Speaking at the workshop, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Expert Johanes Mandowa said, “There is a need for workers in offices to be safe and healthy as they are more productive than unhealthy workers.”
He further said, “It is important for OSH inspectors to possess the knowledge necessary to identify hazards in work environments, as many potential dangers may exist without our awareness.”
Commissioner for Labor Hlale Kelvin Nyangulu said that the training will effectively address knowledge gaps. It will also enable OSH inspectors to measure noise pollution, light, and dust, as each of these poses significant threats in the workplace environment.
The goal is to equip OSH inspectors with essential skills to improve their effectiveness in inspections in order to provide a safer environment for an efficient work force.
